Facilities Planning
With increasing student enrollment and aging school facilities, it is essential for every district to periodically evaluate its buildings and plan for the future. In accordance with WAC 391-341-025, the Reardan-Edwall School District initiated a comprehensive, state-funded Study and Survey during the 2023–24 school year.
The purpose of this Study and Survey was to help shape a thoughtful, long-range plan for the district’s school facilities; one that addresses enrollment growth, current building conditions, preserves existing assets for the long term, and addresses the educational needs of students.
To help guide this work, the District convened a Facilities Advisory Committee made up of community members, staff, and consultants. Their charge was to identify solutions that respond to both current and projected capacity needs, enhance safety, and support the evolving educational needs of students.
Summary of Study and Survey & Committee Findings
The Study and Survey confirmed that the District has been a good steward of its facilities through a strong preventative maintenance program. At the same time, the Committee identified and prioritized several key improvements to be considered at the high school and middle school campuses. The School Board formally adopted the Study and Survey in May 2024.
Community Outreach and Engagement
Building on these findings, the District carried out an extensive community engagement effort in the spring of 2025. This included interviews with dozens of staff, parents, and community members, as well as districtwide surveys and other outreach efforts aimed at gathering broad input.
What’s Next?
The District has launched a Community Facility Solutions Committee, which will review all data, feedback, and work completed to date. This committee will develop a facilities recommendation for the School Board in the spring of 2026.
